I have a 68 mustang with a 347 stroker. The cooling system has a Griffin Radiator rated to 850 hp 3" thick. I have a 180 thermostat with Dual 12" flexlite shrouded fans rated at 2500 cfm. The car has air conditioning and a 11"x 11" trans cooler in front of that. The crate motor is not to get hotter than 190 according to the builder. Riding down the road car is fine, but on hot days the car climbs to 220 during traffic. All components are new. Can you offer any advice. Also I have not even ran the ac yet.

What water pump and pulleys do you have?

Jason,

It sounds like you need more low speed flow. A Cruise Cooler pump and our high flow thermostat should take care of this.

The other possibility would be the ignition timing is incorrect. Not enough initial timing can cause this problem.

Is there anyway to verify the water pump issue before junking the $100 pump that I just bought with this crate motor. Can you hold the rpm up in the driveway when motor has exceded 200 to see if this will bring the temp down?

You can try that....and try bumping the timing up....and try installing one our thermostats.

But there is not a fool proof test to verify the water pump.
