Reply with quote | #1 | I am building up a Ford 347 stroker to replace the 260 motor in my Sunbeam Tiger. For v belt alignment purposes I need to use a water pump that can have the hub pressed back to about 4.95 inches between hub pulley mounting face and pump to block mounting face. I know this can be done with the Edelbrock 8842 for a 289 HiPo application. Can I do the same with either of your Ford Pumps that have the right side input design? Edelbrock claims even/1% balanced coolant flow to both sides of the block with their pumps. (Milodon does much the same in their literature.) There is also supposedly some sort of reverse flow prohibition feature in the Edelbrock. All at least seems important but may be more hype than meaningful. Also, anti-cavitation features seem to be important in high volume pumps. How does your pump compare on these points? Any help with all of this will be greatly appreciated. Gene |

Reply with quote | #2 | Gene,
We have built several of the Sunbeam Tiger pumps over the years. Those engines were equiped with the early 260/289 timing cover that uses the aluminum pump with no back plate. Edelbrock and Milodon don't offer this pump, and I'm pretty sure they are not able to build custom water pumps.
The Edelbrock pump is a very nice looking pump. The Cruise Cooler pumps match or our perform them in every measure.
We just have a lot more experience with water pumps and cooling systems than Edelbrock.
I don't consider Milodon as a competitor. I'm not aware of any cooling system development they have performed.

Reply with quote | #3 | Howard, thanks for the quick reply and comments. I would like to get one of your high volume pumps if you do have one with the open back configuration since I am using the 260's aluminum timing cover. What would be the correct part number? For that part number, is it possible to push the hub back to the 4.95 inch hub to back dimension I need? Thanks again, Gene

You need to order part number C-2505623.
Add a note that you need the special 4.95" length. There will be no additional charge for this.
